Fortnite developer, Epic, has announced its plans for the 2021 Fortnite eSports. One of the more notable points in this announcement is their prize pool amounting to $20 million. Last year was only $17 million, understandably so due to the pandemic, but it still isn’t able to top the 2019 prize pool of $30 million.

This statement was released after Epic issued details on the latest season of their Fornite Champion Series, the game’s highest level of competition. They have also revealed that they plan on holding the competition online and just today, they gave out more details about what the schedule is going to look like for this activity.

On the 4th of February, qualifiers are set to kick off with the finals beginning on the 12th of March. Because they aim for inclusivity, there will also be three new separate broadcasts with commentaries in French, German and Spanish languages.

This year’s game will have a few format and scoring changes which can be reviewed in their blog post. According to Epic, the “overall goal for this is to create better consistency throughout the year and tie the 2021 seasons together for a more cohesive experience.”

With regards to the prize pool, the 2021 Fortnite Championship Series will have four seasons with a total of $3 million in prize money for each. However, as reported, there will also be other tournaments coming scheduled for mid and end of year. The developer plans to assemble the top FNCS players in each region in multiple competitive formats. The remaining $8 million will serve as the prize money for these pending tourneys.

Meanwhile, earlier today, Epic revealed a brand new partnership that will feature 23 different professional soccer teams in the game.
