Twitch Has Been The Victim Of A Data Breach
Game-streaming platform Twitch confirmed that they have experienced a massive data breach. This data leakage has hampered the confidential company information and streamers’ earnings.
Recently more than 100GB of data was posted online. The documents divulged that Twitch’s top streamers each made millions of dollars from the Amazon-owned company in the past two years.
Twitch posted a statement on Twitter about the data breach. The company said it was “working with urgency” to understand the extent of it. They also mentioned that the company would “update the community as soon as additional information is available”. Fortnite streamer BBG Calc also talked about the incident. He said, “The earnings list got my figure 100% correct.”
The documents are shared in different online forums. These show the payments made from August or September 2019 to October 2021. According to these documents many well-known streamers, including Dungeons & Dragons channel CriticalRole are the top earners.
The documents also contain a trove of internal Twitch data along with the source code for Twitch’s website and related services. It is considered as one of the biggest leaks that explored an entire company’s most valuable data.
