Chinese social media site Sina Weibo has suspended 22 K-pop accounts due to “irrational star-chasing behavior”. K-pop fans in China have now become the latest victims of celebrity culture.

However, the suspension also included fans of Korean pop band BTS, they are trying to customize an airplane for singer Park Ji-Min’s 26th birthday. They crowdfunded on the platform with these accounts. Weibo claimed that these accounts are performing “illegal fundraising” for the stunt.

The company said in a statement, “firmly opposes such irrational star-chasing behavior and will deal with it seriously”. It also said that they are trying to “purify” online discussions and implementing “community order” on its platform.

Previously, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) also executed an online cleanliness process. They also announced 10 measures to “clean up” online platforms. They called it the “chaos” of celebrity fan clubs.
